EXISTING ENDOWMENT FUNDS
The Frances and Gunnar Fagerlund Scholarship Endowment funds The Frances and Gunnar Fagerlund English Studies Scholarship, awarded annually to a qualified applicant who plans to enroll in sophomore-year studies at Peninsula College. The scholarship is designed to encourage students to become college- or university-level teachers of English and to recognize the value of literary study. The total amount of the scholarship is $1,500 for the academic year, to be awarded in the amount of $500 for each of the fall, winter, and spring quarters in the year in which a student qualifies.

The Floyd and Rosalyn Young Endowment for the Physical Sciences funds The Floyd and Rosalyn Young Science Studies Scholarship, awarded annually to a qualified applicant who plans to enroll in sophomore-year studies at Peninsula College. The scholarship is designed to encourage students to pursue careers in science or mathematics. The total of the scholarship is $1,500 for the academic year, to be awarded in the amount of $500 for each of the fall, winter, and spring quarters in the year in which a student qualifies.

The Helen Farrington Endowment for Nursing makes available funds for special needs of the Peninsula College Nursing Program. Criteria for donor-award distribution will be established by the chair of the Nursing Department, in consultation with the Dean of Professional Technical Education.

The Humanities Endowment in memory of Cyril F. McFrederick funds enrichment of teaching in the Humanities through activities such as, but not limited to —
  • Scholars-in-Residence
  • Learning Community classes involving two or more disciplines
  • Study-Travel student scholarships
  • Teachers Talking with Teachers conferences (Elementary, Secondary, Post secondary) within disciplines
  • Humanities student scholarships
  • Faculty professional development
The Frances “Jo” Leary Nursing Endowment funds The Frances “Jo” Leary Nursing Scholarship, which is awarded annually to two students, one to a freshman and another to a sophomore in the college’s nursing program. Frances Leary, a retired nurse, wanted to make it easier for students to pursue nursing careers by providing some type of financial assistance that would let them complete their educations. She established this scholarship with the guidance that preference be given to nontraditional students, such as single parents and physically challenged individuals, who can qualify for the demands of a nursing career. The total of the scholarship is $3,500 for the academic year, to be awarded in thirds for each of the fall, winter, and spring quarters in the year in which a student qualifies.

The Exceptional Faculty Awards Endowment Originally established by the Washington State legislature in 1990, the Exceptional Faculty Award Program provides matching funds to assist colleges in creating an endowed trust fund for outstanding faculty awards.

Faculty members make application consistent with the application guidelines for activities that will have a significant impact on the faculty grantee(s) and/or their colleagues in their professional capacity at the college. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated excellence in their field over time, including:
  • Exceptional service to a program or discipline
  • Dedication, knowledge, expertise or exceptional achievement in a program or discipline, or an academic or professional specialty
  • Superior service in classroom or counseling duties
  • Outstanding leadership in service to the college

EXISTING SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
The First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Port Angeles Academic Excellence Scholarshipfor Studies at Peninsula College is made available by a yearly President’s Circle gift from First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Port Angeles. Three students are awarded one-third of the annual $5,000 donation for recognition of outstanding academic achievement and community service.

The John and Laura Hook Academic Incentive Award is awarded annually to a qualified applicant who plans to enroll in sophomore-year studies at Peninsula College. The scholarship is available to a broad range of students, not limited to elite performers or to those who satisfy a means test. The intent of the award is to help students who might otherwise drop out, to complete their educations. The scholarship provides full tuition for one student for the academic year, to be awarded in thirds for each of the fall, winter, and spring quarters, in the year in which a student qualifies.

The James V. Jacobs Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified applicant enrolled or planning to enroll in the Survey/Geomatics Technology program at Peninsula College. Named to honor the memory of local accomplished surveyor James V. Jacobs, this fund was established through the efforts of members of the North Olympic Chapter of the Land Surveyors' Association of Washington, and is intended to encourage students to enter the professional field of Survey/Geomatics. The grant amount will vary, depending on individual circumstances and need.

John’s Scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified applicant who plans to enroll in sophomore-year studies at Peninsula College pursuing an Associate of Science degree in Nursing. The generous donors, who wish to remain anonymous, say this about the scholarship: “The name John means, ‘the Lord has been gracious.' This scholarship received this name because we truly feel that God has been gracious to us and provided us not only with the ability to acquire our education, but also the resources to now assist others.” The total of the scholarship is $2,000 for the academic year, to be awarded in thirds for each of the fall, winter, and spring quarters in the year in which a student qualifies.

The E. John and Helen Maier President’s Scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified applicant who plans to enroll in studies at Peninsula College. The intention of the scholarship is to expand opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds who have the potential of becoming role models for excellence in education and leadership. The grant amount will vary, depending on individual circumstances and need.

The Jerry McGillicuddy Orkney Student Loan Fund is available for students at Peninsula College through the bequest of Jerry McGillicuddy Orkney. Her philanthropic interests included seeing that Peninsula College students needing financial help in order to remain in school would have the assistance they needed. The recipient will pay the loan back and another student or students can be helped. These funds are available through the Financial Aid Office.

The Wilder Auto Family Scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified applicant who plans to enroll at Peninsula College. The scholarship is made available to children of Wilder Auto Center employees who are pursuing an Associate’s Degree or a College Certificate. The scholarship covers tuition and fees, plus up to $200 for books and supplies for up to six quarters.
