Painting from the still life, students will learn to expand their creativity in a series of four paintings based on a single motif. Enrich your travels by learning how to draw in your own sketch book. Miriam Lansdon will show you how to use watercolor washes, and pen and ink to illustrate buildings, landscapes, and unique places. This quick technique is great for working on location and recording specific information. Some drawing experience is helpful. C-AB 011 WORKING IN SERIES II

This class will be a bit different from the first Work in Series. Students will be doing a series of paintings of your choice. Students will be working on treatment of form. In other words the paintings will all be different but painted in the same method. For example all the paintings will be done in primary colors or all warm paintings with 10% cool. You will need to work from photographs or your own drawings. Your choice. This class will take some thought and prep. There will be information on why artist work in series. We will critique and discuss the work. Students will have individual attention and help. For more information call instructor at 681-0895. Get acquainted with "Yupo Paper" in this one-day workshop. Machine-made in the U.S.A of 100% polypropylene, this paper is waterproof, stain resistant, incredibly strong and allows for great creativity. Miriam will take you step-by-step through the process she has developed using watercolor and watercolor crayon. Learn matting basics for art work and photography. Learn how-to's for mat cutting: measuring, materials, equipment, and choices. A lengthy demonstration will be provided of how-to treat each type of artwork, what materials to use, and easy methods to cut basic mats. An introduction to Tribal Fusion Belly Dance. Instructor Merryn Roullo takes students away from the Hollywood image of Middle Eastern Dance (aka Cabaret) and brings them closer to the roots of this beautiful and ancient art. A follow-up to last year's Introduction to Film Noir, this class will continue our exploration of femme fatales, flawed heroes, shadowy pasts, rain-soaked streets, crimes gone wrong, and labyrinth-like cities in films from the 1940s and 1950s. Viewing cult classics like "Gun Crazy" and "Pick Up on South Street", we will explore noir as reflection of post-WWII America and discuss common motifs, recurring themes, and the rogue's gallery of noir characters. There is no prerequisite for this class. For those who took last year's class, this is an opportunity to look deeper into the noir universe. For those new to noir, the class will serve as a good introduction to noir's stylish and perverse world. Washington State clock hours offered.

The history of classical music and musicians has been a part of the film world for decades. Biopics of famous composers and musicians, dramatizations of the lives of fictional performers of classical music, and operas transferred from the stage to the screen will be examined and discussed. We will be looking at such diverse films as Fantasia, The Competition (in which the class teacher has a supporting role) and Amadeus, one of the most ludicrously inaccurate and misleading films ever produced.
