Credit by Exam
Peninsula College grants credits to entering students based upon certain levels of performance in the Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Program. A list of acceptable scores and subject areas awarded for credit is available in the Enrollment Services Office.
Upon request, students obtaining satisfactory scores on standardized tests may be awarded credit which will apply toward requirements for certain degree programs at Peninsula College. Proficiency allowance is achieved through placement scores on examinations designed for this purpose. Credit may be awarded for proficiency obtained at different levels; however, no grades are given and the course is not computed in your grade point average.
In addition to standardized tests for specific course credits, in special cases you may obtain college credit for courses listed in the current catalog by passing an examination in that course, satisfying the department concerned that both content and method have been mastered adequately. This privilege is intended to evaluate informal and/or comparable education experiences that may be the equivalent of organized class work.
Peninsula College also recognizes the value of prior experiential learning and has established procedures for accrediting prior life experience in appropriate academic disciplines. This process will ensure that you will receive a meaningful educational experience in the program selected and maintain the integrity of this alternative mode for earning college credit.
