Student Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know if I am eligible for services?

A:
You are eligible for services if:

a. You have a physical, mental or sensory impairment that substantially limits one or more parts of your life activities.

b. If you are perceived to have such an impairment.

c. If you have a record of such impairment or have an abnormal condition that is medically cognizable or diagnosable.

Q: How do I go about arranging accommodations for my disability at PC?
A:
You must first identify yourself as a student with a disability with Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). Please see "Procedure for Requesting Academic Adjustment" (make hyperlink to website info) or contact (360) 417-6340 to arrange an intake appointment with the SSD Office. The student bears the responsibility to request academic adjustments or accommodations from the SSD office in a timely manner each quarter in which s/he enrolls.

Q: I'm very nervous about going to college. How will I be treated at PC?
A:
The college policy is strictly anti-discriminatory. There is a zero- tolerance level for discrimination of any kind. Also, the laws are very specific regarding discrimination on the basis of disability.

Q: What will I do if someone makes me feel "picked on" at PC?
A:
There are informal and formal grievance procedures in place at the college. Your first step would be to contact the Services for Students with Disabilities Office. These people will guide you in the proper grievance procedures.

Q: I have extended time on testing as an academic accommodation. How do I go about arranging testing accommodations?
A:
A student may not use "other class" time for extended testing. For this reason, students must often schedule tests so that there are no conflicts with other classes. There are two basic options, and you can work with the instructor to see which will work best in your situation: a) If it is feasible, the instructor may arrange for extra time and/or a non-distracting environment for the student to test, OR

b) The student may take the test through prior arrangement with the Testing Center. The student is familiarized with the process when accommodations are requested.

Q: What do I do if the instructor is reluctant to provide accommodations?
A:
Advise the Services for Students with Disability’s office of the situation immediately.
