Veterans' Services
The Veterans' Services Coordinator is located in the Enrollment Services Office and provides guidance to veterans and their dependents regarding education benefits under the “G.I. Bill.” All veterans and other eligible individuals should visit this office as early as possible during preparations for entering Peninsula College. Applications for veterans’ educational benefits should be initiated through the Veterans' Services Coordinator. Initial processing times can reach 90-120 days before funds are received, so be prepared to pay “out of pocket” for the first quarter. Advance application is recommended.
Initial applications must be accompanied by a certified true copy of the military individual’s
military transcript
and a
DD Form 214
(Member-4 in the lower right corner), obtainable from the county auditor’s office at no cost
after recording the original.
Transcripts of work completed at other colleges must be made available as well. Dependents will need either marriage certificates (spouses) or birth certificates (children) to establish eligibility.
Once benefits are established, educational checks can be expected each month as payment for the preceding month
after the veteran verifies enrollment information to the VA
at the
Web Automated Verification of Enrollment
or by telephone or letter. The payment rate is determined by
credits applicable toward the VA educational goal:
12+ credits = full time, 9-11 credits = three-quarter time, 6-8 credits = half-time, while fewer-than-6 credits = reimbursement for tuition and fees only. Summer quarter applies a different formula.
Veterans Tuition Waiver at Peninsula College
-The Peninsula College Board of Trustees approved a 50% Veterans Tuition Waiver to eligible veterans or national guard members, as provided by House Bill 1174. Also, under the 2007 Substitute Senate Bill 5002, certain military dependents may qualify for a waiver of all tuition and some fees. Contact the Veteran Services Coordinator for eligibility information.
