Program Philosophy The Clallam Bay School (Cape Flattery School District) operates a preschool program for 3 to 4 year olds from September through June. Peninsula College offers regular parent education opportunities. The Clallam Bay/Sekiu Cooperative Preschool works with the preschool teacher and Peninsula College Staff to plan and implement activities such as fundraising, evening parent/child activities and potlucks. They also work to provide input for the parent education program as well as the curriculum. Special Education identification and support are offered through the Clallam Bay School, and bus service is offered through the school district. Breakfast and lunch are served as part of the program. Health screenings are done annually as are developmental screenings. The program is designed to offer an inviting and stimulating learning environment that provides children with developmentally appropriate activities to meet a variety of individual and group needs. Class Times There are two preschool classes: Each class meets two days a week from 8:40 a.m. to 12 noon.
Age Groupings 3 to 4 year olds. Tuition Tuition is free for all children. Parents pay for meal service, which is part of the USDA food service program. Children may be eligible for free or reduced meals
Activities The daily schedule offers a balance of structured activities, including meals and large and small group activities. A significant part of our day is devoted to a choice time with activities in all areas of the curriculum. Large motor activities are offered daily both outside and inside. Parent Involvement Parents are encouraged and welcomed to participate in their child's preschool experience by regularly volunteering in the classroom. Parents also volunteer as fieldtrip assistants, by participating in evening family activities, and as members of the Cooperative Board. Parents can also participate by preparing classroom materials and assisting with kitchen, classroom, playground, and housekeeping activities. Parents are presently involved in both ongoing and short-term fundraising efforts to raise money to enhance our playground environment. Parents are also encouraged to participate in parent education opportunities.
