A tradition of excellence
Peninsula College Athletics is a tradition built on the same principles that guide our campus, where teaching and learning is the center of what we do. Our athletic mission is to strive to win championships, to academically prepare our student athletes for opportunities at the next level, and to teach and model the principles of good citizenship. Pirate athletes will participate in community service activities, leadership development, youth sports camps and clinics, and a variety of student life opportunities to better prepare them for success in sports - and in life. Our coaches are excellent, post-season play is not a goal at Peninsula, but rather an expectation - and our student athlete success stories often continue at the next level. Jump on board the Pirate ship and join us as a player or a Pirate booster. You'll be glad you did!

Four honored as top athletes for 2008-09
PORT ANGELES – Marquita Espinoza, Samantha Flett, Dion Serras and Hugo Vasquez were honored as Peninsula College’s top athletes for 2008-09, as announced by the athletic department at the annual awards portion of the Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday.
The four athletes, one from each sport, were chosen for outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, citizenship, academic achievement and athletic ability.
Espinoza, a Sequim High School standout, smashed the single-season home run record and played almost every game at catcher for the Pirates to earn the 2009 Jim Lunt Award for softball. Due to an injury she sustained her freshman year, she still has a year of eligibility remaining and is likely to put the career HR mark out of reach. She was a team captain as a freshman and will serve on Peninsula’s student government in 2009-10.
Flett, of Wellpinit, Wash., won the 2009 Art Feiro Award for women’s basketball. She led the Pirates in scoring, assists and steals and was also among the Northwest Athletic Association of Community College leaders in those categories. Her Pirates finished second in the North Region and became the first Peninsula women’s basketball team to win a game at the NWAACC Tournament, where they posted a top 12 finish. She also served two years in student government. Flett will continue her career with a basketball scholarship to Eastern Oregon University in the fall.
Serras, of Mt. Lawley, Australia, was the men’s basketball Art Feiro winner. He was a leader on and off the court, he had a very positive spirit and a strong work ethic and not only contributed to the Pirates’ success over his two years here, but he also served as a Peninsula College student ambassador. Serras will continue his collegiate hoop career at Western Oregon University.
Vasquez, of Leavenworth, helped the Pirate soccer team to two straight NWAACC Final Four appearances and was the recipient of the 2009 Wally Sigmar Award. He scored 10 goals and had 11 assists in his career as a Pirate as a two-year starter. He is currently playing semi-professional soccer in Mexico.
