Lance Von Vogt

Lance Von Vogt
Head Coach
(928) 304-0000

Lance Von Vogt was named head basketball coach of Peninsula College on June 10, 2010.

Entering his second season at the helm, Coach Von Vogt has quite a first year to follow after capturing the school’s first Men's Basketball NWAACC Championship since 1970.  The team finished the season with a record of 22 wins – 7 losses, 13 – 3 league record and playing their best basketball when it mattered most.

The road to the Championship was difficult as the Pirates defeated the fifth, fourth, third and second place teams on their way to the Championship.  This was the first time in NWAACC history that feat had occurred.  Coach V earned NWAACC Coach of the Year honors after the season.

The team finished second in the North Division during the regular season and finished the year undefeated at home a perfect 9 win – 0 loss campaign.

The 2012 season looks to be even stronger than last year with 3 returning starters back from the championship squad plus some prized new recruits like Wake Forest transfer, JT Terrell who averaged 11.1 points per game as a freshman in the ACC conference.

Prior to joining Peninsula College Coach V was the lead assistant at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona for four seasons.  The Matadors were consistently ranked nationally during his time there while capturing 3 conference championships and 2 region championships.  Von Vogt recruited and coached four All Americans, seven All Region and 10 All Conference players while at AWC.

Von Vogt assisted 1st year head coach, Jeff Neubauer during the 2005-06 season at Eastern Kentucky University.  The Colonels placed 4th in the highly respected Ohio Valley Conference that year and recruited players that would take them to the NCAA Tournament the following season.

Coach V’s first head coaching experience came at Oxford College of Emory University from 2002 – 2005 where he broke nearly every school record by recording back to back region championship teams and being ranked nationally in the top 10.  Von Vogt also recorded the school’s first winning seasons and playoff appearances while recruiting two future NJCAA All Americans to the school.

Von Vogt broke into the coaching business working for the Legendary Lefty Driesell at Georgia State University from 2000-02.  During his years assistant Coach Driesell the Panthers enjoyed their two most successful seasons in school history amassing 51 wins versus just 15 losses in that span.  In 2000 GSU won 29 games, the conference championship, and a NCAA Tournament bid where the #11 seed Panthers knocked off the #6 seeded Wisconsin Badgers at the Boise, Idaho regional.  The Panthers followed up that season with another conference championship and a NIT bid.

Von Vogt played college basketball at St. John’s River Community College and holds degrees from the University of South Florida (Bachelor’s) and Georgia State University (Master’s).

Lance has a wife Charlyle who teaches at Peninsula College and they have two daughters, Lauren and Aspen.
