2012 ASC Announced

An all-student committee interviewed 15 candidates for 9 positions on the 2012-13 ASC and after a lengthy deliberation, the committee made its selection: Leisl Brown, Anthonie Cullen, Brittany Dyer-Smith, Abigail Jones, Koshin Ono, Ted Rasmussen, Grace Scofield, Shelby Solomon and Elizabeth Turner. ASC President Jason Trammell said he was very impressed with the quality of this year's applicants and that it's very possible some of those students could be added to the council as openings occur. The executive council was elected in a student body election earlier this quarter and the winners were President Jason Trammell, Vice President Omar Anderson and Vice President of Programming Rachel Thompson.

Associated Student Council

The Associated Student Council is the governing body for the students of Peninsula College. It is comprised of three executive officers, elected in the spring, and nine other officers, selected in the spring. The 2011-12 executive officers include President Kimmy Jones, Vice President Jessica Farrell and Vice President of Programming Rachel Thompson. The representatives include Tabitha Bare, Leisl Brown, Timothy Douglass, Brittany Dyer-Smith, Jessica Farrell, Josie Hansen, Rebeca Hanson, Nicole McGoff, Corey Nelson and Shelby Solomon.

Meetings are held at 12:30 on Tuesdays, October through June in the ASC Conference Room, located on the south side of the PUB. Students, staff and faculty are welcome.

The ASC's primary function is to develop the student budget and to oversee student activities and programs, including concerts, dances, child care, clubs, athletics, recreation, field trips, etc.

How can I get involved with the ASC?

There are two paths to secure a spot in the 2012-13 Peninsula College student government.

  1. If you have earned 24 or more credits prior to April 1, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, you are eligible to run for President or one of two Vice President positions in our annual student body election (click on election packet below).
  2. If you prefer a low key approach, students, including incoming freshman, are welcome to fill out an application (click on application below) and submit it to the Office of Student Programs by May 11. This route involves a simple interview.

It is also common for the ASC to have openings throughout the year, so interested students are also welcome to fill out an application for the ASC to have on file for future openings.

Other leadership opportunities at Peninsula College include one of three student spots on the College Council, as well as club leadership and work through Peninsula's ambassador program. Students interested in any of those opportunities are welcome to contact the ASC or advisor Rick Ross at asc@pencol.edu, 360-417-6432, rross@pencol.edu, 360-417-6533.
