Work-Study Positions Summer 2008


Multimedia Communications:
At least 2 students needed Mon & Wed 3:00-5:00pm, Tues & Thurs 3:30-5:00pm, Fri 11:00am-5:00pm. Multimedia Computer Lab Assistant will provide technical support to students and faculty in the areas of multimedia technology. The lab assistant will help students and faculty with computers, printers, scanners, word processing questions, and saving files. Additional responsibilities include assisting students and faculty with the editing of digital files such as page layout documents, photographs, and web pages. Periodic data entry work required. Must have completed and have a passing grade in 2 or more Multimedia courses.

Business Office:
At least 1 student needed to work 10 hours per week to help with filing, archiving files (some lifting), and miscellaneous office duties. Must be detail oriented and know the alphabet, and must have good attendance.

Distance Learning:
At least 1 student needed to provide assistance to students in the areas of multimedia, digital photography and Photoshop. Scan slides and prints for faculty. Create multimedia content as needed.

Library Media Center:
At least 1 student needed approx. 5 hours per week for general library tasks as requested, including but not limited to: Emptying book drops, shelving books and periodicals, picking up and delivering mail, photocopying, inventory, discharging and charging library items. Helping prepare materials for move to new library; helping move during quarter break.

Distance Learning:
At least 2 students needed approx. 10-15 hours per week. Primary duties will be documenting & maintaining video/audio tape/DVD inventories, organizing video/audio tape/DVD storage areas and assisting with duplication of video/audio to replenish inventories as needed. A variety of clerical tasks including, but not limited to, filing, mass mailings, assisting with rental agreements, and making copies of printed materials for students and staff are also required.

At least 2 students needed.  Shifts are Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 p.m. (max 19 hours per week) or Monday-Thursday evenings between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.  Students will assist with copying, filing, calling, data entry and backup coverage for the college switchboard. Minimum qualifications include excellent attendance, keyboarding skills, prefer experience with word processing. Must be responsible, self-directed, and respectful of confidentiality issues.

Position 1: Prepare advertising for The Buccaneer; includes making sales calls on local businesses, gathering material for advertising, preparing ad layouts, managing accounts, invoicing and billing; working with InDesign software-based system for newspaper production. Production 2: Prepare page dummies for The Buccaneer as directed; assist with distribution of The Buccaneer (3 to 4 times per quarter); assist website management.

North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center:
At least 1 student needed 12:00-3:00 Mon-Fri to work with students to help them complete their assignments. Must be dependable, friendly with teenagers, ability to work with students with special needs (past experience preferred)

Learning Center:
At least 1 student needed 3:00-5:00pm Mon-Thurs or Mon-Fri for learning center receptionist, answering phones, take messages, assist students in computer lab, field questions from walk ins. Minimum qualifications: Computer skills and receptionist skills.

Collections/Accounting Assistant (Topocean Consolidation Service Inc. in Kent, WA):
At least 2 students needed to be primary responsibility that will be issuing weekly statements of account to customers and following up by phone and email to ensure payments are received and accounts are kept within credit terms. Secondary responsibility will be assisting in accounting functions, i.e. ensuring accounting records are matched between local office, corporate office and overseas counterparts. Minimum qualifications: Accounting coursework; strong communications skills, especially via phone.

Operations/Customer Service (Topocean Consolidation Service Inc. in Kent, WA):
At least 2 students needed to be primary responsibility that will be handling import shipments for assigned group of customers to ensure US Customs clearance is obtained and shipments are released or delivered to customers in a timely manner. Communication with overseas offices customers, customs brokers, truckers and steamship lines by phone and email. Cooperation with accounting department to ensure revenues and expenses are captured in accounting system accurately and timely. Minimum qualifications: Strong communications and organizational skills, ability to prioritize & handle competing deadlines; strong customer service ethic.

Education Transition Center, Basic Skills:
At least 1 student needed to work Approx. 15-19hrs/week for copying, filing, develop word and excel files, input data into already established software programs. Also will assist office staff and facutly as needed. Minimum qualifications: Knowledge of word and excel applications and able to take initiative and maintain privacy.

Institutional Support Services:
At least 4 students needed to work flexible hours for maintenance, grounds, and custodial work. Must have some general qualifications of construction, be able to lift at least 50 lbs, and be willing to work.

Counseling Services/Student Development:
At least 2 students needed to work Monday-Friday, 8-5:00 to answer phones, schedule appointments, provide information about the college, and assist students. Also needed to create fliers, update database, type forms and labels on typewriter, create and update files. Minimum qualifications include strong personal and written communication skills, excellent attendance, keyboarding skills of 35 wpm, prefer experience with word processing, and spreadsheet software, must be responsible, self-directed, and respectful of confidentiality issues.

Education Transition Center:
At least 1-2 students needed to work 2-3 hours for morning class (class time is 9 AM-12 Noon. Do not apply especially if not available for 1 or 2 hours during the period 9-11 AM.) to assist the faculty by working one on one with students to assist in the comprehension of basic reading, writing, and beginning math skills. Also needed to be done are copying, filing, and maintaining student folders. Minimum qualifications are the ability to work well with public and to be able to take initiative and maintain privacy.

Welding Program:
At least 4 students needed to work 15 hrs/week for general shop maintenance/maintain welding booths, organizing material, track and refill welding gases. New student shop orientation and assist students with their projects. Prep material for student projects and other duties as assigned. Minimum qualifications: completed 2 quarters of welding classes or Instructor permission.

WorkFirst:
At least 1 student needed to work 10hrs/week for copying, answering phones, taking messages, keeping classrooms organized, data entry, and other duties related to office skills. Minimum qualifications: Type 40 wpm, good spelling, basic computer skills.

Peninsula College Educare Center:
At least 2 students needed to work (varied shifts) between 7:45 AM-4:00 PM Monday-Friday to be a classroom aide- under the supervision of the center teachers, assists children (ages 3-6 years) in their daily routines and activities. Minimum qualifications: Experience working with children and/or enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program. HIV/AIDS and Blood Borne Pathogen Training; Negative TB test within the past year. A criminal background check is required and forms will be filled out at the center upon applying for this position. Preferred but not required: First Aid and CPR for Adults and Infants and Children; Valid Food Handler's Card.

Cultural Events:
At least 1 student needed to work 5+hrs/week. "Ticket Seller" at events: Magic of Cinema every Friday night; studium each Thursday @noon. Some evening and weekends requested. Must have excellent interpersonal skills- no off campus work required. Hours can be adjusted to students schedule.

Science Laboratory Assistant:
At least 1 student needed to work 6-10hrs/week. Responsibilities: preparation of microbiological media and solutions; washing glassware; safely disposing of microbially contaminated material by autoclaving, ext.; routine maintenance of lab equipment and suppplies; setting out and putting away lab equipment as directed; maintaining and organizing storage of supplies, specimens and equipment.

Banbury Corner Daycare & Pre-school(off campus):
At least 1 student needed to be a Lead Teacher who is enthusiastic about working with children from 1 month to 5 years old. Singing, reading stories, art projects, and a lot of outside time. We are like a large home doing the things you do at home, eatin, napping, playing, having fun.

Roots Coffeehouse (off campus):
At least 2 or 3 students needed to help open and/or close shop, make espresso drinks, ring up sales, take lunch orders, serve customers, work with staff to serve a quality drink or food order. Be a spokesperson to the public about our focus to give back to the community as a nonprofit coffeehouse. Must have current food handlers card/permit, outgoing personality to interface with customers, be a quick learner, and Love coffee!
