C-SF 030 "WOMEN TO RECKON WITH"
This class brings together the stories of twelve adventurous nineteenth-century Olympic Peninsula women who ignored societal conventions and surmounted cultural barriers. Even today their lives instruct us. In the face of life's unfairness, injustice, and bigotry, these women did not become discouraged and would not be denied. The roles they played and the impact they exerted on the region will be explored using fascinating vintage photographs and captivating vignettes.

The book, Gods and Goblins: Exploring the History of Olympic National Park Place Names by Smitty Parratt's will introduce and bring to life the tales behind the stories of some of your favorite places in the Olympic National Park. Fascinating vignettes of Native Americans, mountain men, early explorers and settlers will be told using vintage photos to help illustrate the history of this magnificent national park.

C-SF 065 DAY HIKE WITH A TWIST
Class will include one lecture and one day hike. In addition to discussing the basic fundamentals of hiking, the lecture will include a short introduction to the history of the specific area we will be exploring. Participants should be able to hike five miles at a rate of two miles per hour. Hikes will vary from moderate to difficult. All partipants must register. Participants are responsible for their own transportation, food, equipment, and park pass. For questions, contact instructor Glynda Schaad, (360) 452-8017. Hikes will be approximately 3-7 hours. Lecture meets on Friday, 10 am. Hikes are contingent upon reaonable weather.

Carrie Rixon will come to life as you hike the shores of the lake.
You may also glimpse remnants of Qui Si Sana, the once notorious

ke is 6 miles roundtrip with a 1200 feet elevation. Begins at
Soleduck Trail head. Trail head approximately 13.8 mile drive from
West end of Lake Crescent. Moderate to difficult.

C-SF 075 CERAMIC WORKSHOP
Express yourself with clay! Clay has been a durable artistic medium for thousands of years. In this workshop, you will explore various methods of hand building with clay, learn how to fire an electric kiln, and glaze your final pieces. By following step-by step instructions, you will create cups, bowls, plates, and sculptural pieces. This class is geared toward beginners, but will offer advanced instruction for those with clay experience. Students will have access to studio space after class hours. Fifty lb clay, glaze, and electric firing will be provided. Additional materials and firing space available upon request. Last day to register - June 30, 2009. Washington State clock hours offered.
