Jen Gouge
Jen Gouge is the Coordinator of Peninsula College’s Medical Assistant Program. She received her degree in Radiologic Technology at Seattle University in coordination with Providence Hospital in Seattle. In the context of that training, she had an externship at Harborview Hospital in Emergency Training and at Swedish Hospital Tumor Institute— Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center for radiation therapy and oncology.
Jen has an extensive work history in the field of medicine and has worked in the following specialties: Radiology (Chief X-ray Tech Hiline Hospital), Pediatrics, Otolaryngology, Orthopedics, Urology, Flight Medicine, and Family Medicine.
In 2005 and again in 2006, Jen was invited by the Oxford Round Tables at Oxford University in Oxford, England, to present papers on aging. Her 2005 paper was on the “Social Consequences of Aging” and her 2006 paper concerned the “Segregation of the Aged.” She also served on an interdisciplinary committee for Oxford University Round Tables at Harris Manchester College in 2006.
Jen defines her teaching philosophy this way: “Students are the center of instruction. Each may be a different learner. The instructor must meet each with enthusiasm, appreciation, and joy.”
In her teaching, Jen adheres to the Mission of Peninsula College, Teaching for Learning, pointing to her graduates with pride as they assume various positions within the field of medicine in our local communities.
